Bar Model & Fact Fluency — Support Programme

A ready-to-use support programme that builds children’s number-fact fluency and bar-model skill — with everything your teachers need to deliver it themselves. Schools take on the materials and the training, and your own teachers run it in class, so the expertise stays in your classrooms. This is a classroom support programme, not an enrichment class.

The Bar Model strand

Children use bar models — simple rectangular diagrams — to picture the quantities in a word problem, so they can see how numbers relate and choose the right operation with confidence. The materials take a class from concrete to pictorial to abstract, step by step.

What it covers

  • Understanding: the 4-step problem-solving process and the main types of bar model.
  • Word problems: addition and subtraction, multiplication and division.
  • Fractions: part-whole and comparison models.
  • Ratio & percentages: comparison and part-whole models.

The Fact Fluency strand

Fluency — quick, accurate recall of number facts — is the foundation that frees children to tackle harder maths. The programme builds it in a clear progression, one level at a time, with ready-to-use practice for each stage.

What it covers

  • Level 1: counting with ten-frames, part-part-whole, counting on to add, counting back to subtract, and using doubles.
  • Level 2: counting on and back, finding the difference (counting up), doubles, and bridging numbers.
  • Level 3: addition and subtraction facts, using doubles, arrays in multiplication, and the 2–9 times tables.
  • Level 4: multiplication and division fact families, and multiplying and dividing rules.
  • Level 5: mental strategies for all four operations, 2- and 3-digit addition, 2-digit multiplication, division by 1-digit numbers, comparing and calculating with fractions, and decimal addition and subtraction.
  • Level 6: larger addition, subtraction and multiplication, dividing by 2-digit numbers, factors, multiplying and dividing fractions, decimal multiplication and division, and ratio and percent.

How schools use it

  • Your teachers are trained to deliver the materials.
  • They run short, regular sessions in class, building fluency and bar-model skill week by week.
  • Ongoing support from a Singapore Math specialist whenever you need it.
