Mixed-Age Group Projects bring children of different grades together around one real-world mission — and let every child work at exactly their level. While the youngest count, build and sort, older students estimate, calculate and lead, so everyone contributes to the same shared result. It’s hands-on Singapore Math that feels like play.

How it works

Each project is one big, real-world challenge — running a bakery, opening a market, designing a city, hosting a lemonade stand. Children work in mixed-age teams, and every task is pitched at three levels at once, so a Kindergartener and a Grade 5 student can sit side by side and both be genuinely stretched. Nobody gets “easier” or “harder” work in a way that sets them apart — they use the same materials and finish the same mission, just doing the part that fits their grade.

Built on the Singapore Math method

Every project runs on the approach that makes Singapore Math so effective: the bar model, ten frames and number bonds, the concrete–pictorial–abstract progression, and a named problem-solving strategy at every station — act it out, draw a diagram, look for a pattern, work backwards. Children don’t just get the answer; they learn how mathematicians think.

The projects

Grades K–2

  • Number Neighborhood — build a street of numbered houses, from counting to place value.
  • Buggy Café — a bug-themed café where every order is an addition or subtraction problem.
  • Grocery Store Count-Up — run a shop where every price tag is a problem and the ledger keeps score.
  • Shape City — flat shapes become windows and signs, solid shapes become buildings.
  • Clock Tower Market — a market that opens and closes on time, with coins to make change.
  • Garden Growers — grow a garden, measuring heights and comparing weights.
  • Class Pet Survey — survey favourite pets and turn the results into graphs.
  • Pattern Parade — build patterns, double and halve, and share treats into equal groups.

Grades 3–5

  • Expedition Trailblazers — plan a world expedition on a €10,000 budget (whole numbers, place value, estimation).
  • Sunrise Bakery Co. — run a bakery for Grand Opening Day (multiplication, division, order of operations).
  • The Fraction Marketplace — plan a bake-sale stall on a 9-cup flour budget (understanding and comparing fractions).
  • The Field Day Countdown — measure, stock and schedule the school Field Day (metric units and time).
  • Mini City — design and build a city skyline (2-D shapes, area, perimeter, volume and surface area).
  • Market Day — open a working market (place value and decimals — add, subtract, multiply, divide).
  • Angle Academy — a geometry mission through angles, lines, shapes and symmetry.
  • Garden Data Explorers — collect real garden data and graph it (tables, line plots, coordinates, probability).
  • Lemonade Stand — run a stand using ratio and percent, with every grade doing a job.

Where they fit

Mixed-Age Group Projects are ideal for mixed-age and small-group classes, homeschool groups, holiday camps and enrichment days — anywhere children of different ages learn together. Each project can run as a single project day or as a series of shorter sessions, and finishes with something real to present: a poster, a model, a market, a report.
